Vintage wedding invite designs don’t come across our desk regularly. So when one did, we jumped at the chance. It was for a rockabilly-style wedding set in Lake Tekapo, in the Soth Island of New Zealand. With the wedding being just under a year away, we had time to create an amazing vintage wedding invite design.
A simple brief
The vintage wedding invite design brief was simple. Bold lines, using red and black, with a strong vintage tattoo look and feel. One half of the couple wanted an anchor while the other half wanted a rose, doily and polka dots.
A bespoke wedding invite
‘Rachel & Nathan’ were hand-lettered using an ink pen on paper. We scanned the illustration and imported it into Adobe Illustrator. Once in the program, we converted to outlines. The drawing was then an editable vector image. The roses and anchor pulled the central part of the design together. The flourishes of the lettering filled the spaces perfectly. Additionally, the doily pattern linked the circle to the dotted background. It also matched the wedding dress which was bold black and white with a similar lace. The bride wore red lipstick to match the invite.
Wedding invite printing
The invites were printed on thick stock with the letterpress technique. Having different patterns gave interesting textures on the paper of the wedding invitation design.
